Ruskin made numerous watercolour sketches of architectural details for his three volume book, The Stones of Venice (1851-53). When the displays of the Manchester Art Museum were rearranged by John Howard Whitehouse in 1908, works by Ruskin were shown together in the new Ruskin Room.
